Who We Are
Linda Pinkham is the Medford-based editor / publisher of the Jefferson edition of Green Living Journal. Like many residents of the State of Jefferson, Linda comes to the task with a commitment to sustainability. She has a masters' degree in fine art (SOU) and a background in publishing. She honed her skills with Home Power Magazine, where she learned the ropes of how a magazine is run from publishers Richard and Karen Perez.
She writes,
The best part of my experience at Home Power was meeting national experts and authors and learning from them. What I learned resonated with my lifestyle of self-sufficiency and sustainability, and I made many further adjustments. I changed all the light bulbs in my house to compact fluorescent bulbs one afternoon in the midst of editing a piece about their cost effectiveness and energy efficiency. We committed to harvesting our own electrons at home and put in a solar-electric system, which meets 75 percent of our needs. When we run out, we borrow a few cupfuls from Pacific Power's Blue Sky program.
I am very excited to publish this journal because I know that real and meaningful lifestyle changes begin at the grassroots level, one person at a time. The Green Living Journal offers the resources for informed decision-making and enables people to find what they need. At the same time I envision the journal being a vehicle to grow a strong local economy in the green sector of our community. Building up the green community is a winning proposition for all of us -- from individuals, to families, to local businesses that do right, and ultimately for the good of the planet.
Approximate Territory We Serve
Green Living has been publishing environmental news since 1990. Our focus is on the practical and positive: most articles focus on how the reader can help the environment or improve their health. We make important information friendly and readable.
While Green Living is primarily distributed in parts of New England, Oregon and Northernmost California, its articles are almost always of national interest. Like an ecominded Utne, we scan many publications for the most interesting stories around. Most of our columns are reprints from larger, slicker magazines (translation: even though we're a small operation, we have top quality articles). Since most of our articles have a how-to focus, they make good reference material.
We print 80,000 copies of Green Living every quarter. Most are distributed free at nearly 1,500 locations in the locations described above. Those who live outside our distribution areas or want to support us can subscribe (see subscription info).
If you'd like to know more about advertising in Green Living (and our excellent rates), contact us (potential advertisers who'd like to see our rate sheet and/or a sample issue, please include a day time phone number). For all non-rate advertising information please read our Advertising Information section.
