Before a war military
science seems a real
science, like astronomy;
but after a war it seems
more like astrology.

The Les & Nova Show

by Stephen Morris                         9145 2256

On the food trail with Vermont's best-known 'wildcrafters'

The day starts early, but not too early, for Leslie Hook and Nova Kim, Vermont's best-known "wildcrafters," as wild food foragers are known these days. They rolled in just after midnight last night after delivering their wares to Pauline's Café and Bistro Sauce, two of Burlington's tonier eateries. Somehow their deliveries have a tendency to turn into extended conversations about the state of the planet. Then they made the 90-mile trek back to tiny Albany in the Northeast Kingdom.

Stories and Tunes

What an honor to be asked to participate in this year’s SolarFest. This event has come a long way, baby, and now can rightfully claim to be the nation’s premier event of this type. One of the great strengths is how this event has organized the renewable energy community.

In This State: Puerto Vermonta

by Stephen Morris                         9135 920

In this morning's email box, there is an inquiry from a UVM student looking for a summer internship with my publishing company. I write back to ask her to send me a resume and a writing sample.

Next comes a message from my friend, Rob, who is a builder of green homes just across the lake in West Chazy. I've just featured him in an article and the magazine layout artist has requested a headshot. I email him, he emails me back, I email the layout person, he emails me back. Job done, thank you very much.

Work, work, work, work ... work, work, work, work.

Is That You, Elvis?

by Stephen Morris                         9147 558

"Is that you, Elvis?" The speaker is a young (by my standards) woman, with blond hair that falls to her shoulders, then gaily flips to the side.

The paper editions of Green Living are distributed in parts of New England and northern Oregon, its articles are almost always of national interest. We scan many publications for the most interesting stories around. Most of our columns are reprints from larger, slicker magazines (translation: even though we're a small operation, we have top quality articles). Since most of our articles have a how-to focus, they make good reference material.

We print 80,000 copies of Green Living every quarter. Most are distributed free at nearly 1,200 locations in the locations described above. Those who live outside our distribution areas or want to support us can subscribe (see subscription info).
